Upright sizes

Rack makers describe their uprights by the outside size of the steel tube, in inches: 2×2, 2×3 or 3×3. It’s the first thing to check before buying an attachment, because most attachments are built for one size and won’t go on another.

Which attachments care

It depends on how the attachment holds on. Of the 91 attachments we track:

  • 67 wrap around the upright (J-cups, spotter arms, dip stations). They only fit the size they’re made for.
  • 13 bolt through it (mostly plate storage). The bracket is cut for one size too.
  • 11 just pin into a hole (band pegs, most landmines). They ignore upright size; only the pin has to fit the hole.

19 of them cover more than one upright size, either as separate versions or as one part that takes both. Each attachment’s page says which; where there are versions, order the one for your rack.

Size isn’t everything

Two racks with the same upright size can still take different attachments, because the holes differ. A Rogue Monster rack and a Rogue Monster Lite rack are both 3×3, but one has 1" holes and the other 5/8". Check the hole size and spacing too (see hole size and spacing).

Tubing made overseas is sometimes a little under its nominal size (a “3×3” at about 2.95"), which a spec sheet won’t show. A wrap attachment built for a true 3×3 sits a little looser on it. If you aren’t sure what you have, measure across the outside of the upright with a tape or calipers, both ways.
