Hole size and spacing
After upright size, the holes decide what fits: how big they are, and how far apart.
Hole size
Racks we track use one of three hole diameters, sized for the pins that go in them:
- 5/8" on most 2×3 racks and 3×3 “lite” racks (Rogue Monster Lite, REP 4000 series, Bells of Steel Hydra).
- 11/16" on Titan’s T-3 and X-3. A 5/8" pin seats in them.
- 1" on heavier 3×3 racks (Rogue Monster, REP PR-5000, Bells of Steel Manticore) and some 2×2 racks.
A pin up to 1/8" smaller than the hole still seats properly, which is why 5/8" attachments go on 11/16" racks. A 5/8" pin in a 1" hole is another matter: it rattles and loads the edge of the pin, so we count it as not fitting. A 1" pin won’t go into a 5/8" hole at all.
Hole spacing
Spacing is how far apart the holes are up the upright, centre to centre:
- Westside: 1" apart through the bench-press zone, 2" above and below, so you can set safeties and J-cups more precisely where it matters.
- 2" throughout: common on 1"-hole racks.
- 3" throughout: rarer; REP’s 2×2 PR-1100 uses it.
For a single-pin attachment, spacing only changes how finely you can set its height. It matters for fit when an attachment uses two pins a fixed distance apart: the rack needs holes at that distance. Of the attachments we track, 2 use two pins: Rogue Monster Lite/Infinity Monolift Attachment, Rogue SP3358 Plate Storage Pair (Long) for Monster Lite.
Metric and imperial
Racks made to metric drawings space their holes in millimetres, close to but not exactly the inch spacing of imperial racks. One pin never notices. With two pins, the gap between the rack’s holes and the attachment’s pins grows with every hole, so the second pin can miss. Where an imperial two-pin attachment meets a metric rack (or the reverse), we mark it “Check first” rather than “Fits”; that’s 14 pairs right now.
